***********

In May we present the following new materials:

In the Articles section Faith Trent, Dean of Education at The Flinders University of South Australia, has contributed Teaching diverse groups. Her article is practically orientated with problems articulated and then addressed by 'How to Handle' hints.

ultiBASE Research Officer Diane Baird has produced another thoughtful interview entitled Humanism, teaching and technology: A dialogue with Carol MacKnight and Carmel McNaught. Interviewed during the ASCILITE conference in December last year, they agreed 'to make conversation available in the hope that it stimulates thought'. They discuss the use of technology in teaching, possible future directions, current standards and ideas of excellence from both Australian and US perspectives.

Jason Lowder of Monash University has contributed Creation of WWW documents for students. His guidelines are based on experience and cover issues of navigation, content, network problems, use and feedback. Winner, with Dianne Hagan, of the 1996 ASCILITE award for the best WWW project, his article complements Dianne Hagan's Student feedback via the World Wide Web which we presented in March.

Howard Aldrich, Kenan Professor of Sociology at the University of North Carolina, has been interviewed for an article entitled A teaching champion: An interview with Howard Aldrich. Professor Aldrich has also contributed the first ever Recommended Viewing to our Resources section. This new section presents a selection of recent and classic resources within discipline areas, chosen by practitioners in those fields. The choices this month may surprise...

The publication of a new book entitled Researchers hooked on teaching: Noted scholars discuss the synergies of teaching and research, to which Howard Aldrich is a contributor, provided the impetus for our trans-Pacific information exchanges. The book is perceptively reviewed this month by Anne Gartner of RMIT.

Our Workshop section has been re-structured this month with a new icon, title page and Workshop entitled 9 Principles of Good Practice for Assessing Student Learning from the American Association for Higher Education (AAHE)

Richard Elliott, Head of Learning Technologies, UNITEC Institute of Technology in Auckland, New Zealand, has contributed a fascinating array of Website recommendations for his contribution to Choice Clicks this month. This area of ultiBASE is proving very popular.

The Resources section has been updated in many areas:

One pioneer has added a message to our Exchange Section. To start a new discussion, click on the 'Add message' button and follow the instructions. To read and respond to the existing message, click on the message itself and follow the instructions.

We have recently published a new (paper) leaflet about ultiBASE. Please tell us if you would like copies to distribute to colleages.
