In SEPTEMBER we have the following NEW materials
for you:
During August our national Editorial Committee met in
Melbourne. The thoughtful deliberations of this Committee will ensure the
continued expansion and quality development of ultiBASE. Members are listed
in full in the About
us section as well as in the Publish
section.
In the Articles
section:
We have an original and reflective article by Anne
Gartner, Gloria Latham and Susan Merritt entitled The
power of narrative: transcending disciplines. The authors provide
an enticing introduction to their article:
Telling our lives as they happen to us is
a pervasive activity in the social world. Through stories we value personal
history and make sense of our lives (including our teaching and learning).
It was in making sense of individual educational practices that the three
authors came together to demonstrate the interdisciplinary potential of
narrative, drawing on subjects offered in urban studies, education and
nursing.
This article is ultiBASE peer reviewed. Enjoy!
On a very practical note, A
user's guide to portable multimedia projectors by Tanya Slaughter
provides a wealth of information on the intricacies of these specialised
projectors. Portable multimedia projectors are suitable for presentations
which are designed solely for use with computer or video. According to
the author, 'The features of the current machines match perfectly the
needs of multimedia users and presenters on-the-move'. Although new models
are constantly being developed, this article provides useful advice on
what qualities to seek.
ultiBASE is grateful to the Academic Development
Unit at La Trobe University for allowing electronic publication of this
resource from the ITALICS (Innovative Teaching and Learning Involving
Computer Systems) series.
Peter Ling's Incubator article entitled Evaluating
teaching initiatives which employ resource based learning is still
available for post publication peer review - by you! Click on the
title to read the article. Invitations to comment are provided with the
article.
The entire Articles
page has been restructured to facilitate effective searching. You can
now search for articles under the categories of Classroom Advice,
Tertiary Education Issues or simply by discipline or author.
As submissions to our site increase we will endeavour to maintain the
clear organisation and ease of accessibility for which we have been praised
during August ...
Feedback for August has been added to our
Guest book. Please add your own comments.
Our Events page
continues to grow as we provide information about an increasing number
of tertiary teaching and learning events. Tell
us about your planned Events - we will be happy to tell the world
on your behalf.
In the Resources
section:
More descriptions of teaching materials
available from Academic Development Units have been added. This will continue
to grow. Our list includes over twenty exciting titles covering a wide
range of teaching and learning issues. We also include information on
how to obtain copies. Ask
us for a Proforma if you wish to add your publications.
Depending on the size and scope of publications,
Academic Development Units may choose to negotiate full electronic publication
with ultiBASE. This increases the availability of the publication but
decreases the administration and distribution costs for the individual
Academic Development Unit.
Our guest Tipster for the month is Michael Pryor,
Technology Consultant for the Victorian Association for the Teaching of
English. Catch his tip on telling students how to succeed in our Teaching
tips page. Previous tips now appear in a linked archive page to provide
additional information.
