AskERIC is a personalized, Internet-based service
providing education information to teachers, librarians, students, counselors,
administrators, parents, and others. In addition, AskERIC is a Sun SITE
repository, which enables expansion of the quality and quantity of its
resources and services to the education community.
Crossroads is a resource directory of Social
Science data available on the Internet. It is designed to provide links
to annotated information resources arranged by subject and type. The service
is run by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA.
The pioneer site for Asia-Pacific research and electronic
publishing. The Coombsweb is conceived and maintained by the Internet
Publications Bureau, Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, Australian
National University (ANU) and is updated on a daily basis.
The Distance Education Clearinghouse allows users
easy access to a wide range of information about distance education.
This comprehensive and widely recognized web site brings together distance
education information and resources from Wisconsin, national and international
sources. New information and resources are being added to the Distance
Education Clearinghouse on a continuing basis.
EdResearch Online is the "web" subset of
the Australian Education Index is now available online for searching as
EdResearch Online. This subset has all those AEI records that are freely
available on the web (8000+), as well as some that can be purchased for
a fee through arrangements with the Copyright Agency. EdResearch Online
can be searched for free.
ERIC/ACVE provides comprehensive information, publications,
and services in adult and continuing education, all aspects of career
education, and vocational and technical education including work force
preparation.
The ERIC Clearinghouse on Assessment and Evaluation
seeks to provide balanced information concerning educational assessment
and resources to encourage responsible test use.
ERIC-HE covers a broad range of information including
students, faculty, graduate and professional education, legal issues,
financing, planning and evaluation, curriculum, teaching methods, and
state-federal-institutional questions related to higher education.
ERIC/CIT provides educational technology and library/information
science at all academic levels and addresses all aspects of information
management and information technology related to education.
ERIC/ChESS monitors issues about the teaching and
learning of history, geography, civics, economics, and other subjects
in the social studies/social sciences.
The ERIC Clearinghouse on Teaching and Teacher Education,
one of sixteen ERIC Clearinghouses, collects, abstracts, and indexes
education materials for the ERIC database; responds to requests for
information in the subject areas of teaching; teacher education; and
health, physical education, recreation, and dance (HPERD); and produces
special publications on current research, programs, and practices.
Every year, the Educational Resources Information
Center (ERIC) produces more than 200 ERIC Digests--two page syntheses
of the best, most current research on a topic. Topics covered are determined
largely by the questions most frequently asked each of the sixteen subject-oriented
ERIC Clearinghouses. A full-text searchable collection of 2,089 ERIC
Digests is maintained at the Department of Education.
The mission of the Horizon Web site is to provide
an information database and a forum that (1) explores the implications
of a rapidly changing world on educational organizations and processes,
and (2) examines ways in which we can make educational organizations
and programs more effective.
REGARD is a searchable bibliographic database containing
in-depth information on UK social science research. It is wholly funded
by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
IBSS is a interdisciplinary research tool for the
social scientist. The IBSS database holds over 1,700,000 references
to journal articles, book reviews, book monographs and selected book
chapters.
A range of electronic resources have been set up
specifically to meet the needs of those working and studying in the
Social Sciences. The Resource Guide for the Social Sciences focuses
on resources funded by the JISC and the ESRC and provided by services
based at UK higher education institutions.
SOSIG can help you locate high quality sites on
the Internet, which are relevant to social science education and research.
The SOSIG Internet Catalogue offers access to thousands of high quality
Internet resources, each selected and described by academic librarians
and subject specialists.
